Imagine this. You’re all set to travel from Bangalore to Coimbatore for Mahashivratri in a train. Cleaned camera lenses, check. Govt IDs, check. Heavy metal chain lock, check. An on-call Tamil friend, check.

You start your journey and just then the only couple in your compartment starts fighting about not being able to capture the morning golden hour right. Another guy is hangry and another one is not able to hit the right sleeping position while you are lifelessly sitting in the middle of all this, sleep deprived and tired after staying up all night watching your favorite football team lose the match.

Don’t mind a distraction, huh? This is your cue to introduce RummyTime to all your co-passengers!

Why is rummy a perfect travel companion for you?

For starters, at least it doesn’t chase golden hours and get hangry.

  • Portable and flexible

Playing solo? Play online! Wanna play for a long time? It’s time to play deals rummy. All you need is a good internet connection to your smartphone and you’re golden! With so many variations available for you, you’ve got to master them all!

  • Easy to carry and play

Can’t seem to have a stable connection? Switch to traditional rummy. Carry your deck and let the madness unfold!

  • Keeps you relaxed and entertained while you travel

By this time you would notice, your hangry passenger has channelised their hunger into the game, the couple doesn’t care about the golden hour and there’s no sleepiness in your own system!

Top rummy variations to try during the travel

While you know rummy is all about skills and cards, you should also know that rummy has 3 popular variations that come to suit your entertainment needs!

  • Deals Rummy

In this variation, the game begins with an already set number of deals. Each player starts with a set number of chips. At the end of each deal, the winner gets chips based on the scores of the other players. Once all the deals are completed, the player with the highest chip count is the declared winner.

  • Pool Rummy

This variation has its own 3 variants – Pool 61, Pool 101 and Pool 201.

The idea is to not exceed these scores based on the limits suggested by their names (61, 101, 201). The player left after all other players have exceeded these score limits is declared a winner. So, let’s say there’s no visibility for the train to move ahead and suddenly your travel time has been extended then, this is the right variation as the game goes on for a longer time.

  • Points Rummy

Here, all you have to do is form a mandatory pure sequence and a pure or impure sequence to declare the cards correctly to win. This is the quickest variation to play to pass your time and improve your skills rapidly. If you are reaching your final destination and wish to keep your brains occupied till the last minute, this quicker variation lets you be engaged for a shorter time. You could choose to play this variation on RummyTime and get plenty of practice games to improve your skills and know all the tricks.

Digital rummy VS Traditional rummy

Digital Rummy Traditional Rummy
Pros
  • Lesser props to carry i.e. only a smartphone and internet connection is all you need!
  • Can be played anywhere without losing your props!
  • You can play solo without convincing your friends!
  • Easier to keep a check on who’s winning!
  • You can limit your screen time while playing with just cards!
  • The jamming zones do not stop you from winning the deals game!
Cons
  • If you enter the jamming zones with a tempered network then it might be a hurdle for you!
  • If your friends want to join you for a game, that’s gonna be a problem!
  • You need to have situational awareness in order to not lose out on the props.
  • You also need to have people around to play the game with!
  • Have to manually take care of points, rules and winners!

Travel tips for playing rummy on-the-go!

Now if you play offline or online, there are few things that you should always keep in mind, and make a few arrangements to have a seamless entertaining experience with rummy.

Online arrangements: It’s always better to carry a charger and a portable charger

to never let your fun get discharged in between. It’s also best to have a secured internet connection and keep some data in reserve.

Offline arrangements: Usually, losing out on a Joker card wouldn’t be an issue but when you’re playing rummy, losing a Joker card might not turn out in your favour! So, what to do? Always keep a count of all your cards and carry a small carry bag or a box to fit your cards in the same. Choosing the right place to play games like a train compartment, waiting area on a railway station, and shuffling your cards carefully are again a few tips to keep handy to avoid misplacing cards.

How does rummy enhance your travel experience?

And now since you already have made friends in your compartment, a lot of time wouldn’t feel like a lot of time, right? So, it obviously acts as a catalyst to make friends and have a bond with people around you. New bonds, chaaya and rummy…sounds like a perfect end to the journey!

Reached your destination but can’t stop thinking about your fellow passengers? How excited they seemed to learn all about rummy and all the wrong moves they played during their games? Rummy definitely has a learning curve to it! Offline rummy or digital rummy, rummy has always been the best source of lightweight entertainment and is a greatly engaging stress-free travel activity. It is always better to have a few portable games like rummy, poker, ludo etc. handy during a trip to make the time pass by quickly.
